In response to market-driven research, our training leads to high demand jobs in entry and mid-level positions. You can also take the prerequisite coursework to pursue a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN) or another advanced career in healthcare right here at SUNY Schenectady.

Allied Healthcare Trainings

Behavior Health Technician – Behavioral Health Technicians care for people who have mental impairments. They assist doctors and nurses with the treatment of patients who have various behavioral health conditions, such as substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental instability and physical and emotional abuse, as well as disabilities.

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)/Personal Care Aide (PCA) – Learn to provide personal care to residents of long-term care skilled nursing facilities as a Certified Nurse Aide, or in a home setting as a Personal Care Aide. 

NEWCertified Nurse Aide (CNA)/Personal Care Aide (PCA)/Home Health Aide (HHA) – If you want flexibility in healthcare take the three courses in one and earn all three certification: Certified Nurse Aide, Personal Care Aide and upgrade to Home Health Aide. You can work in nursing homes, or in a home settings. Take advantage of the opportunity! 

Community Health Workers (CHW) – Join a team of healthcare professionals within public health, hospital, social service and other community support organizations to promote health and wellness, through outreach, education, referral and follow-ups, case management, advocacy and home visiting services.

Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician –A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and nurses, to administer electrocardiograph (EKG and ECG) diagnostic examinations and report results to the treatment team. A valuable stackable credential for your future in healthcare!

Home Health Aide (HHA) – Want to work in a home setting and providing care to a variety of populations ranging from infants to the elderly? Become a Home Health Aide.

Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA) – The evolution of medical services has created a strong demand in the area of Medical Administrative Assistant. Known also as Medical Office Secretary, Medical Receptionist or Medical Office Assistant, the training is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to provide administrative support in a medical office, a basic understanding of medical terminology, enhanced oral and written communication skills necessary to provide administrative assistance, ability to help with transcription, and marketing and healthcare administrative management. In addition, ethical and professional behavior, respect of confidentiality, HIPAA rules, and patient needs along with problem solving and critical thinking skills will be addressed.

Personal Care Assistant (PCA) – Train to work in a home setting, providing services limited to personal care and light household work as a Personal Care Assistant.

Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Upgrade to Home Health Aide (HHA) – Pursue this training if you already have your PCA certification and wish to acquire additional training to become a certified HHA.

Phlebotomy Certificate The phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team whose main function is to obtain patient’s blood specimen by venipuncture and micro-collection for testing purposes. 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Interested in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)? This course meets New York State Health Department Bureau of Emergency Health Services requirements. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Refresher – Already an EMT and looking to keep your certification? This refresher course offers discussion on new laws and policies as well as new technologies introduced to the field within the past three years.
