Men's Basketball

Welcome to the Royals Men's Basketball Program

The Men's Basketball program at SUNY Schenectady County Community College is led by Head Coach Harry Rolle. Coach Rolle played for the Royals back in his college days at SUNY Schenectady and was an exciting point guard for the Royals. He brings that same excitement to the sidelines as our Head Coach. The team plays strong defense, presses at every opportunity and plays up-tempo on offense. The Royals participate in the Mountain Valley Conference and Region 3 of the NJCAA. The competition is high, as the Royals face teams including Herkimer College, HVCC, FMCC, and MVCC. The Royals play a full 25-game schedule with the goal of making it to the Region 3 playoffs where the winner goes to the NJCAA national tournament at Sullivan Community College in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. So if you are looking to join an up-and-coming program, SUNY Schenectady is the right place for you.

Game Updates

Coach Harry Rolle and Raheem Felder on the court at the YMCAFebruary 14 - Felder scores 1000 point in SUNY Schenectady's 101-61 win over Clinton C.C. Sophomore combo guard Raheem Felder from Lansingburgh High School scored his 1,000 career point Thursday night in a 101-61 win over Clinton C.C. at downtown Schenectady YMCA. In typical Felder fashion, as he has done throughout his two year career, his 1,000 point came on a hard drive to the basket where he was fouled and made the basket. He completed the old fashioned three point play with the ensuing free throw. The game was halted briefly at that point as head coach Harry Rolle presented him with the game ball- see attached photo. Felder finished the night as the Royals’ high scorer with 19 points raising his career point total to 1,011. He received double-digit support from freshman guard Cory Sanders with 16 points, freshman forward Towan Hamlin and freshman guard Dominique Threatt with 15 each, freshman forward Alijah Gibbs with 14 and fellow frosh guard Mark Sidbury with 13. The Royals will look for their third straight win when they travel to Saranac Lake this Saturday, Feb. 16th when they take on North Country C.C. at 1:00 p.m.

January 21 - The SUNY Schenectady men’s basketball team scored a season high 111 points in a 111-95 win over SUNY Adirondack on Monday night in Glens Falls. The weather may have been very cold outside but it had no impact on the hot Royals’ offense inside. The Royals jumped out to a 59-34 halftime lead and cruised to the 16 point victory. The Royals placed five players in double digits led by Cory Sanders with a career high 36, Towan Hamlin and Mark Sidbury with 17, Dominique Threatt with 12 and Raekwon Showers with 11. The Royals will try to make it three wins in a row when they host conference foe Mohawk Valley C.C. tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at the downtown Schenectady YMCA.

December 15 - SUNY Schenectady men lose to #2 team in the country, BMCC, 71-53. The SUNY Schenectady men faced a tall task as they faced the #2 ranked team in the country- the BMCC Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers came into the game with a perfect 14-0 record. Despite that, the Royals only trailed by the score of 27-26 at the half- ironically the same halftime score of the women’s game. But the Panthers outscored the Royals, 44-27, in the second half to pull away to a 71-53 win. The Royals placed three in double figures led by sophomore guard Raheem Felder with 15 points, freshman guard Corey Sanders with 13 and freshman forward Elijah Gibbs with 10. The men will also break for exams and return to action in the second semester when they travel to Plattsburgh on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to take on Clinton Community College at 7:00 p.m.

December 4 - The men’s basketball game Tuesday night between Mountain Valley Conference foes Columbia Greene C.C. and Schenectady C.C. went back and forth all night. The Twins would seemingly get some breathing room but the Royals would come right back each time and tighten things up. The game would go down to the final possession with the Royals needing a three point basket to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, the Royals weren’t able to get it and dropped a tough 93-90 decision to the Twins at the downtown YMCA. The Royals placed three players in double figures led by sophomore guard Raheem Felder with 29 points, freshman guard Corey Sanders who came off the bench to score a career high 28 and Dominique Threat who also came off the bench to add 12. The Royals will make their next start this Saturday, Dec. 8 when they host Corning Community College at 3:00 p.m. at the downtown YMCA.

November 27 - The SUNY Schenectady men's basketball team took a 79-59 lose at home to Fulton-Montgomery Community College Tuesday night at the Schenectady YMCA. Freshman guard Cory Sanders led the Royals with 17 points, hitting two 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Raheem Felders followed with 15 points, going 8-9 from the free throw line and freshman forward Alijah Gibbs finished with 14 points, sinking 4-8 from the line. The Raiders were led by sophomore forward Juwan Malone with 21 points, hitting three 3-pointers. Freshman guard Jahmr Jordan followed close behind with 20 points, knocking down five 3-pointers and sophomore guard Amadou Diakite finished with 19 points, also hitting five 3-pointers and going 4-5 from the line. The Raiders led 33-22 at the half and kept the momentum going for most of the game. The Royals would come close, gaining some traction in the second half, but couldn't get close enough to catch FMCC, finishing with a 20 point deficit. Schenectady returns home Tuesday, Dec. 4 to take on Columbia Greene Community College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Schenectady YMCA.

November 18 - SCHENECTADY- The SUNY Schenectady men's basketball team dropped one at home against rivals Hudson Valley, 85-62, at the Schenectady YMCA. The Royals (1-5) were led by Raheem Felder with 22 points, followed by Dominique Threatt with 10 points, sinking two three-pointers and Cory Sanders with 9, hitting one three-pointer. Jordan Gleason paved the way for the Vikings (6-0), scoring a game-high 32 points and hitting four three-pointers. After an evenly matched first half, Hudson Valley led 38-30. The Vikings outscored the Royals 47-32 in the second half, leading them to the win.
